Our integrated management system
MRTREES’ management system (Quality, Safety and Environmental Management System—QSEMS) has been developed to assist our employees; subcontractors and stakeholders achieve our aim of delivering high quality arborist services. The integrated system aims to increase operational efficiencies and provide consistency in systems that support our daily activities.
We provide a consistent and systematic approach to:
- Delivering client projects
- Providing a safe place of work
- Minimising negative impacts to the environment and community
Standards
MRTREES’ management system integrates traditional stand-alone environment, quality, and safety systems into a business management system framework applicable to all MRTREES activities. It is written in accordance with the following standards:
- AS/NZS ISO 9001: 2008 Quality Management Systems
- AS/NZS ISO14001: 2004 Environmental Management Systems
- AS/NZS 4801: 2001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems

Risk assessment
The WHS Risk Analysis MRTREES will look at the likelihood or chance that the hazard will take place and the damage or injury that could occur due to the hazard occurring or the consequence. When the likelihood and the consequence are combined, MRTREES provides a level of risk associated with the potential hazard. The risk levels are categorised accordingly.
The risk level determines the appropriate control measures required to manage the WHS hazard for that particular project activity or task. This will be recorded in the SWMS for each project task.
Once the risk level has been determined for each identified WHS hazard, the next step is to plan and implement the control of the risk. Control measures may eliminate the risk all together or reduce the level of risk to a more acceptable level. Some applied principles may include
- Elimination of the risk
- Substitution of the risk
- Engineered controls of the risk
- Administration controls of the risk
- PPE
Emergency procedures
Rescue and emergency planning
There are many situations in tree trimming and removal work that may require emergency action. Our emergency procedures ensure workers are adequately trained in these procedures. They are based on Safe Work Australia recommendations.
Workers must be made familiar with these procedures. Rescue and first aid training is an integral part of our induction program for workers. Workers must know these procedures and any changes to these procedures that are specific to a new site before starting work. All types of emergency and rescue scenarios are considered when developing emergency and rescue procedures. Information from the risk assessment helps with this task.

New cloud-based software
MRTREES is currently trialling a cloud-based, mobile software application to allow us to update our maintenance crew in real time as clients book their jobs. We can manage the team members’ schedules and prioritise the most important jobs from the office or from the field. Changes are applied in real-time so everyone is updated and they know exactly where they need to be and when.
Using this automated work order management system we maximise our efficiency. We are able to accurately estimate the size of jobs, monitor team members and equipment availability and dispatch the right person at the right time to optimise our operations.
Recurring job template
The recurring jobs feature is best suited to address this need. This feature provides an easy way to automatically create and schedule jobs according to a specified frequency. Essentially a recurring job is a template that is used to create a job record repeatedly as needed.
Quicker quoting
Using customised templates for different types of jobs or customers allows us to draw up, quote & invoice building, construction and trade jobs directly from the mobile app. This can be sent straight to our customers email address. This not only saves time for us but gives our clients transparency and the ability to review work in real time and approve work online.
Looking after the environment
We aim to minimise the environmental effects of tree removal. Our skilled and experienced experts are trained to analyse the relevant risks and hazards and ensure that safety and environmental impact are effectively managed for each of our projects.
Safety standards
MRTREES carries out all work in accordance with Australian Standard Pruning of Amenity Trees AS 4373-2007 and it is our policy to never ‘lop’ or use spikes when climbing live trees.
We assist our clients with the identification of environmental weed species and encourage removal. Our personnel are trained to identify these species and provide relevant advice on cost-effective management and control.
We assume responsibility of tree waste on site. Our personnel are trained in the proper handling of waste in accordance with industry high standards.
Arborists reports are prepared by our qualified senior arborists.
Managing urban trees and supporting councils
MRTREES has a strong commitment to maintaining trees as part of our urban environment. We recognise that councils have a strong commitment to maintaining their trees for a common good and not for amenity of individuals.
We support councils through:
- Protecting remnant bushland from inappropriate development and use.
Promoting the value of the urban forest as fundamental and intrinsic landscape element amongst the community - Protecting trees which contribute to the historical, social, and environmental value of an area
- Recognising the importance of age diversity, canopy cover and function of the urban forest and streetscapes to moderate or reduce climate change and urban heat island effects
- Recognise the importance of remnant bushland
We ensure that we understand the requirements of councils’ urban tree policies.
Environmental management system
Our Environmental Management System consists of ensuring compliance with our Environmental Management Plan (EMP—attached). All our staff and sub-contractors are provided with the EMP as part of their induction. We review the site environmental requirements as part of the tool-box talk in preparation for each job.
Waste reduction
MRTREES has focused for many years on developing a sustainable waste reduction operation both on site and internally
All wood chippings created by our work are recycled for landscaping and mulch, and unwanted logs are recycled as firewood or fencing.
This creates a 100% reuse and recycling process of all waste material from the work we conduct, keeping the process as environmentally friendly as possible.
Our Waste Management Policy promotes recycling of all waste materials, and we are proud of our success in achieving this in practice.
