Stump grinding and stump removal are two different processes, and it is crucial to understand the basic difference here. Stump Grinding can be defined as the process of cutting the base of the tree (above ground) and ‘root flare’ to a depth of 300mm below level of soil at the base of the trunk, approximately, and cutting of the radial roots to a radius of 300mm, approximately, from the ‘root flare’ or the outside of the stump and does not include ‘root chasing’. In addition to that, the degree of stump grinding can be limited by surrounding structures, e.g. pathways, garden edging, planter boxes, fences, subsurface structures/rock, buried foreign bodies, et al. Variations to this stump grinding must be included in the body of the quoted price. This is why you need to speak to an experienced person when deciding who to use.
In stump grinding, the roots of the tree are not removed. A stump grinder is used to grind out the stump mechanically and it leaves fine sawdust as a residue. The main objective of the stump grinding process is to bring the stump to your desired height, below ground level. The stump grinding process can be done for just 100mm to as much as 450mm below ground level.
In the stump grinding process, the stump is ground, levelling the ground. It also eliminates the need for extra filling.
There are many reasons why the stump grinding process is preferred by homeowners. The process is easy to complete and efficient tools are used to get the job done. Stump grinding is an environmentally friendly and neat job to complete.

Poisoning of Stumps:
In case you have requested for tree removal only subject to a discussion and agreement with the owner, it is our practice to treat the stump/s to prevent any type of regrowth. In the case of smaller stumps, we treat the area on the top of the stump to prevent stump regrowth. However, in case of larger or more vigorous stumps, we will cut slots into the cambium area on the top of the stump to allow more absorption into the roots. At no time, we (over) treat the surrounding soil or plants.
